TV APPEARANCES ARE UP….WAY UP!

July 24, 2007

It’s been a great couple of days building up to the official world premiere here tomorrow night! exciting times for the film, and the whilwind of media coverage has been just amazing. The surprising thing when you get to sit down with anchors like Ms. Seymour and Ms. Roane, they are very supportive of the message of the reclaimation of black imagery and defeating the negative stereotypes as well. Even more refreshing I get the since that they are fighting the good fight from inside the system, making subtle impacts to the system I am so highly critical of. What I’m willing to wager on is that their story is probably repeated over and over again, so while what we see may be askew, I think in my heart there are some committed reporters, anchors, and media persons fighting for change…

Men on film

The premiere of “What Black Men Think,” the new 83-minute “docu-logue”-style film by local moviemaker Janks Morton (Yes, Janks is his real first name) is expected to draw a capacity crowd to tomorrow’s screening at the Avalon Theatre in Northwest, organizers said. The film — which features man-on-the-street-interviews as well as commentaries from former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, Harvard University professor of psychiatry Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint and actor Joseph C. Phillips (“The Cosby Show”) — is sure to rankle some for its frank discussion of such hot-button topics as male-female relationships, interracial marriage and men on the “down-low.”

Mr. Morton, 43, is up for the challenge. “Hey, if I gotta be that [sacrificial] lamb, I’ll be that lamb,” he says
