You’ve got your HDTV up and running, you bought a high-definition DVD of the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and you can’t wait to watch it.

To do that, though, you’re going to have to get a high-definition DVD player. No problem, you say.

Here’s the trivia question I like to ask all my tech-head friends whenever the whole VHS vs. Beta max comparison start getting tossed about when two emerging technologies find themselves locked head to head for market dominance.

“Why did VHS win the VCR wars?”

I challenge you all, figure that one out and, your noodle will really begin to sizzle. And yes it involves the usual suspects, the government, the media, and special interests.

And yes I know the answer, and it is one word. Betcha can’t figure it out…somebody remind me and I’ll post the answer later in the week.
